The Creative Hub

Auckland’s downtown writing centre ...

Established The Creative Hub a downtown writing centre where some of NZ’s leading writers teach writing courses to the public.

John Cranna Communications founded The Creative Hub in 2010, NZ’s first writing centre run entirely by professional editors and authors.

Thirty of John Cranna's graduates have now published novels or won national writing awards in the last three years, including Rosetta Allan and Eileen Merriman, both published by Penguin Random House, and Fiona Sussman, now published internationally in London and New York. In early 2019, our graduates won 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in NZ's premier short story award, the Sunday Start Times Award.

The Centre employs some of New Zealand’s leading authors to run workshops and tutor students, including Roger Hall, Tessa Duder, Sarah Laing, Whiti Hereaka, Judith White, and Elizabeth Smither. There are also guest workshops by some of the leading figures in the publishing world, including current Penguin Random House publisher Harriet Allan.

The Centre currently now has over 600 graduates and runs a number of classroom courses each year, including a Thirty Week Fiction Writing course. and an Introduction to Creative Writing course. It also offers its courses online. These courses can be accessed via www.thecreativehub.net.nz

Student feedback on courses has been enthusiastic, and the Creative Hub sends a monthly e-zine to its mailing list of 1100, including graduates of its courses, professionals in the writing and publishing scene and the general public.
